Located on Snow Hill Island, this rookery is studied by the argentinian scientists and depending on the weather and ice conditions at the end of the Antarctic winter, it is sometimes possible to access to this colony.

OUR OPINION ON THIS VOYAGE:

Unless you spend winter on a research station as a scientist or a technician in Antarctica, there is no chance to see an Emperor Penguin colony as this bird breed in winter. This expedition cruise offer the possibility to access to a colony thanks to an ice-class vessel and helicopters.
Although you will probably not be able to reach that far through the ice (less than 50 % chance based on the voyages in the last three seasons), the idea is mainly to situate yourselves in or between the Antarctic Sound and James Ross Island, close to the ice-edge and observe the emperor penguins on their way to the open water. You will use helicopters to attempt to search for individual Emperor Penguins and/or the colony.
Be aware that providing the conditions, such as but not limited to ice and weather conditions, are suitable, the captain of the vessel will position the vessel at a safe and (for the helicopters and helicopter pilots) feasible distance from the intended landing site. Ship-to-shore helicopter transfers will enable us to offer the scheduled shore excursions, but every passenger who participates in those mentioned voyages, understands and accepts that no guarantees can be given, including a specific amount of helicopter time. So keep in mind that there is no guarantee you can access to the colony!
They are two other options to visit Emperor Penguin colony in Antarctica (not on expedition cruise ship), contact us if you are interested or for more informations.
