Expedition cruise basics…

South Georgia is one of the remotest and wildest places on earth. It’s dramatic scenery is formed by snowcapped mountains and huge glaciers. The island is also called an Antarctic Oasis because of the huge numbers of penguins and seals that breed here.


About the program and itinerary…

Day 1: departure from Ushuaia
In the afternoon, you embark in Ushuaia in Argentina, the southernmost city in the world located at the Beagle Channel and sail through this scenic waterway for the rest of the evening.

Day 2: at sea
In the Westerly’s the ship is followed by several species of albatrosses, and petrels. It’s also time for lectures and briefings.

Days 3 and 4: Falkland Islands
Two days at the Falkland Islands where landings are planned to discover penguins, seals, albatross, shags and the beautiful landscapes this archipelago. In Stanley, the capital of the Falklands, you can experience Falkland culture, which has some South American characteristics as well as Victorian charm, colourful houses, well-tended gardens, and English style pubs.

Days 5 and 6: at sea
On your way to South Georgia you will cross the Antarctic Convergence. Entering Antarctic currents, the temperature will drop considerably in the time span of only a few hours. Nutritious water is brought to the surface by the colliding water columns, which brings a multitude of southern seabirds near the ship.

Days 7 to 10: South Georgia
Four days in South Georgia to discover this great island of the Southern Ocean. You will make numbers of landings or zodiac cruises in order to discover the wildlife (huge colonies of King Penguins, Fur Seals and Elephants Seals…), beautiful landscapes (high peaks, glaciers…) and historical sites like old whaling stations and the grave of Sir Ernest Shackleton. You will never forget South Georgia for sure!

Day 11: at sea
Rest during this sailing after your activities in South Georgia, or enjoy wildlife watching and lectures on board.

Day 12: South Orkneys Islands
You will attempt a visit to the Argentinean Orcadas station – the oldest permanently manned Antarctic station. The friendly base personnel will show us their facilities and we can enjoy the wonderful views of the surrounding glaciers. This visit depend on the ice conditions!

Day 13: at sea
Enroute to the Antarctic Peninsula.

Days 14 to 17: Antarctic Peninsula
Here you are: the great white continent. During this 3 days, you will explore the Antarctic Peninsula coast thanks to landings and zodiac cruises. Penguins, Seals, icebergs and beautiful landscapes should be with you every day!

Days 18 and 19: at sea
On your way north you are again followed by a great selection of seabirds while crossing the Drake Passage.

Day 20: Ushuaia
Disembarkation in Ushuaia just after breakfast.

Prices include: voyage aboard the vessel as indicated in the itinerary, all meals throughout the voyage aboard the ship including snacks, coffee and tea, all shore excursions and activities throughout the voyage by Zodiac, free use of rubber boots and snow shoes, pre-scheduled group transfer from the vessel to the airport in Ushuaia (directly after disembarkation), all miscellaneous service taxes and port charges throughout the programme.

Prices do not include: any airfare, whether on scheduled or charter flights, pre- and post- land arrangements, transfers to the vessel, passport and visa expenses, Government arrival and departure taxes, meals ashore, baggage cancellation and personal insurance (which is strongly recommended), all items of a personal nature such as laundry, bar, beverage charges and telecommunication charges.
